Everywhere I read about childrens books this one came out tops. I really dont think that there is enough in this book to keep my 18 mth interested even if he is sticking his fingers through the holes. The artwork is sort of plastery and messy looking and I think that puts him off as well. The Very Hungry Caterpillar [Board Book]This book has ended up in the bottom of the toy box forgotten about.

This is a lovely book for children and for adults to read to children. It has been a hit with youngsters for many years.
A great classic children's book, April 5, 2010
I first loved this book when I was 5 years old when I was school and still love it. My two children has also loved listening to this book from babies and my older son still enjoys me reading it to him at age 6.
This book is a classic and many schools and nurseries have at least one copy of this book. Both my son's school and my younger son's nursery has a copy it this book.
As adult (I'm now age 42) I enjoy reading this book again and again. I have never got board of it. It offers so many areas/levels to teach and entertain your child. Over time as I have read this book to my son's I have focused on different topics/aspects like.. food, days of the week, getting bigger, colours, turn the page, life cycle of a caterpillar etc.
It about the life of a caterpillar from an egg to a butterfly. Once it hatches the caterpillar goes around eating various amounts of fruit & foods (progressing from 1 item, then 2 item, then 3 items) but each time he eats he is still hungry; so goes on eating. At the end he creates a cacoon and finally you turn the last page to see him turn into a beautiful butterfly.
The phrases are repeated, the pictures are bright and artful, hard board book which has lasted 4 years of constant use. It's small size means that you can pop it into your baby bag and take it out to read to your child when out and about.
This book is definately an investment into your child's love of books and reading. You will love reading it again and again too.
